An Apple Mac handed in for Repairs at our Edinburgh office.  This must be the slowest Apple Imac I have ever seen.  From powering on the Apple Mac we timed it at 7 minutes 13 seconds to boot to the desktop on this machine.  We did a complete diagnostic and found nothing wrong with the hardware inside.  We started to check the software and that’s when we found the issues.

Initially on the virus scan we found 19 viruses using CPU resources and hogging a vast amount of ram making the Apple Imac run very slowly.  After completing the malware scan this was even worse at 897.  The customer wanted her data saved.  We decided to get to work removing all off them.  Whilst on the telephone to the customer we suggested upgrading to an SSD drive as well as cleaning the inside of the Imac out.

After removal of all the spyware and viruses we installed an SSD upgrade.  This took the boot time down to 22 seconds.  A massive improvement.  Then we copied over the customers valuable data.

This very slow and overheating Apple Imac was delivered by a customer to our Edinburgh office.  The Imac was running so slowly.  It was also overheating in a big way.  This is a common problem on this model of Imac.  Repairs and servicing are neglected because to get into the Imac the display has to be taken out.  The rule of thumb is if the display comes out do everything you can think of  inside the Mac that you can.

In this case the customer was a heavy smoker and by the looks of it had a cat.  Once the Apple Imac Screen was removed we blasted all the dirt and dust from inside.  Removing the fans and cleaning them out as well as replacing the thermal paste on the CPU to help with the cooling.  In addition whilst inside the Imac we decided to give it a decent speed boost by copying the customers hard drive onto a new faster SSD drive.

When the customer collects his Apple Imac it will be as clean and run faster than when he originally bought it.

This is a rather neat but expensive bit of kit, it allows you to rip cd’s on to the internal hard drive and play your cd collection from the device itself with the included speakers.  This had been sitting in the customer house for a few months needing fixed.  Initially we had repaired the customers laptop after it was damaged in a car crash when he mentioned this.

Anyway after stripping the unit we managed to find the fault with the charging port, once replaced as  you can see in the second video everything is working fine.

Our HP Spectre Laptop Repairs Edinburgh. This Hp Spectre Laptop was handed in for laptop screen repairs.  The customer managed to drop the laptop and smash the touch screen and display. This should have been a fairly straight forward job.  Anyway we could only get a replacement screen and touch assembly direct from China.  This took about two weeks to arrived which wasn’t ideal.  The other options was to order the part from HP but this was very, very expensive.  We decided to wait for China. 

This is a very high spec laptop.  In my experience when it comes to HP Spectre Laptop Repairs, nothing goes according to plan.  This case was a fine example of what I mean.  The screen assembly eventually a arrived from China.  This should have just been a case of removing the complete screen assembly which we did.  On fitting the replacement screen assembly the display was fine.  But the touch display wouldn’t work at all.  We looked at the drivers for the touch display, reinstalled Windows onto a fresh hard drive to double check.

We also looked at Windows 10 itself.  We took off some of the Windows 10 updates, and applied them again one by one.  Still no difference.  What really took us by surprise was when one of my colleagues suggested a BIOS update.  I didn’t think this would work.  We set to work, BIOS update it is.  And believe it or not, after the BIOS update we had a touch screen working.

This just shows how HP Spectre Screen Repairs can be more than just a screen repair.  Obviously we didn’t charge anything extra for the time spent on this.  It just shoes how a straight forward job can grow legs and waste an afternoon of time.
